Nitrous Oxide gravest danger to Earth's ozone layer

by Stevie Smith - Aug 28 2009, 15:45

Nitrous oxide only making this hole bigger.

The continuing environmental onslaught of manmade gasses has this week seen scientists singling out nitrous oxide (a.k.a. laughing gas) as a particularly guilty source of destruction against our planet’s increasingly delicate atmosphere.

According to a report issued by the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), nitrous oxide ...

Mopar Enthusiast mag has a nice write up for a new toy to install on the new Challenger. Pro Charger has already worked up a new super charger set up for the car. An extra 127hp gain at the rear wheels according to the dyno sheet they posted. That should be about 40 shy of 500 horse, so I think they need to throw a 100 shot on top of it to get the even 500 hp.

New small block heads

These look promising. At least you can get away from the chebby type rocker system on magnums heads. Magnums are bad about pulling or breaking the small studs off for the rockers and bad about cracking too. Not to mention the poor valve train geometry. And they make a mod so you can put shaft rockers on the magnum heads, but it's not worth the cost when you can use an old X,J,or U heads and get the same or even more power with the right dual pattern cams. Plus the old heads are much cheaper to ...

The safety disks are suppose to blow and relieve the nitrous at 3000psi but sometimes they fail and the bottle goes boom. I'd imagine it would take more than 10,000psi to burst a bottle maybe less depending on the age of the bottle.

Broken extractor

Freakin' great....while trying to extract a broken exhaust manifold stud in my 440, I drilled a hole in it, and used a spiral extractor--that was technically too small for the stud--to back it out (I'm cheap..it was on-hand, but now I know I shoulda used a drive-in type)...sure enough, the damn thing broke off in the stud. Now I've got a hardened extractor stuck in the head. Any ideas for getting it out?

Here's my 440 block numbers....the boss up top shows a code of "E-440", making it a '69 version, but here's the block stampings...

Passenger side:

Looks like it was cast at 11 am on November 15, 1968, and it's a RB 440....

Driver's side:

Same numbers. I have no idea what this "8" means at the end of the series....any ideas?
