The REAL Stimulus Package? Empty The REAL Stimulus Package?

Well ladies and gentlemen last night the "Economic Stimulus Bill" passed the house. In this wonderful pork bill .12 cents of every $1, is for something that can plausibly be considered a growth stimulus. Where is the other .88 cents of every dollar going? Here is some of what our elected representatives voted for in the 647-page $825 billion Stim Bill:

* $1 billion for Amtrak, the federal railroad that hasn't turned a profit in 40 years
* $2 billion for child-care subsidies
* $50 million for that great engine of job creation, the National Endowment for the Arts
* $400 million for global-warming research and another
* $2.4 billion for carbon-capture demonstration projects.
* $650 million on top of the billions already doled out to pay for digital TV conversion coupons.
* $30 billion, or less than 5% of the spending in the bill, is for fixing bridges or other highway projects.
* $8 billion will go to such things as renewable energy funding
* $6 billion to mass transit
* $600 million more for the federal government to buy new cars. (The Federal Government already spends $3 billion a year on its fleet of 600,000 vehicles.)
* $7 billion for modernizing federal buildings and facilities.
* $252 billion is for income-transfer payments -- that is, not investments that arguably help everyone, but cash or benefits to individuals for doing nothing at all.
* $150 million to go to the Smithsonian
* $81 billion for Medicaid
* $36 billion for expanded unemployment benefits
* $20 billion for food stamps
* $54 billion will go to federal programs that the Office of Management and Budget or the Government Accountability Office have already criticized as "ineffective" or unable to pass basic financial audits. (Economic Development Administration, the Small Business Administration, the 10 federal job training programs, and many more.)
* $66 billion on public education (Some $6 billion of this will subsidize university building projects. If you think the intention here is to help kids learn, the House declares on page 257 that "No recipient . . . shall use such funds to provide financial assistance to students to attend private elementary or secondary schools.")
* $83 billion for the earned income credit for people who don't pay income tax.
* $40 billion for broadband and electric grid development, airports and clean water projects that are arguably worthwhile priorities.
* $20 billion for business tax cuts, and by the Wall Street Journal's estimate only $90 billion out of $825 billion, or about 12 cents of every $1, is for something that can plausibly be considered a growth stimulus

Something for you all to think about. The Media, and Washington have been ramming down our throats about how bad things are. Remember that bailout? The one that they said would cause our economy to fail by that Friday if it didn't pass? Well it didn't pass by that Friday and nothing happened. When it finally did pass (despite We the People being against it) it didn't help things. We are still looking at a crumbling economy according to Washington, and the Media.

What is my point? Well by fear they have goaded "We the People" into rationalizing bills like the bailout, and now this stimulus bill. To what point? Why would they do such a thing? Well simply put, it is to spread their agenda, not to help you or this economy. Like I said .12 of every dollar in this bill is going toward something that "might" help. Not guaranteed to help. However Washington and the Media (both sides Rep. and Dem.) are pushing you on fear with talk about times so tough that this must pass NOW, and like THIS. They call it a necessary evil, and that's what we have been conditioned to accept.

Put an end to it! I'm here to tell you this is not the truth. It is not necessary for congress to force all this pork in this bill at all. They can simply cut the additional spending. If this is SO important that we must pass it then it is important enough to cut spending from. They need to be held accountable. This is your money, the money you earned slaving away day after day, the money you earn while not spending time with your family. This is our country not theirs. Why do we have to give up .88 of every dollar to BS? It is time to take ownership of your money, and your country and DEMAND better representation, and a more responsible government.

Outraged yet? Good, then it is time to do your part. Spread this information to everyone they know. Call the U.S. Capitol Switchboard at (202)224-3121 and ask for your senators' and/or representative's office.
