Weird Question, Can I get these?
I've started looking at new tires for my Cherokee since my Wrangler Silentarmors are nearing 40k miles and have decided to look more towards a street tire instead of an off-road tire for it since it rarely sees any kind of off-road use.
For a while I'd thought about getting a set of '97-'06 TJ Wrangler Rubicon 16x8 wheels and putting Wrangler HP's on them for it and here's what I found that should work and would buy if I didn't have to spend the money to also buy the rims.

Since those are pretty much a pipe dream right now (damn R/C habit )I found these on Firestones website. They're a couple inches shorter than the Wranglers, but they're also designed for a heavy emergency and pursuit vehicles and have a slightly higher speed rating (not like that'll make much difference on my slower, lighter Jeep, I know ) Seeing as that they're designed for a pursuit/emergency application, can I even buy these as a "civilian" motorist? This is the size I'm looking at and will be used on the factory 15x7" rims.

Re: Weird Question, Can I get these?
I had Wranglers on a truck and hated them. Had some Firestone tires on a 5th, and they did not last no time at all. All of them broke belts. Check out the ones listed below and see what you think. I run the last tire listed on my 4x4's. The ALL Terrains work great both on and off road. Not too aggressive and don't hum till they are pretty much worn slap out. I've used three or four sets over the years on my 4x4's and I love them. I run the 32x11.50's on 15 x 10 wheels too.
Why not try these for a street tire. They work good on cars.

Re: Weird Question, Can I get these?
I thought about the Radial TA's, have you ever run them in snow like conditions and in rain? The Silent Armors have been great tires but have worn out kinda quick, but I doubt alot of tires would last a long time the way I throw that Jeep around on pavement. I've managed embarrassed a few sports type cars with it and really pissed off an Acura MDX owner on more than one occasion when I was still working in Naperville
By the way, WTF is with the lack of higher speed rated tires for 15" rims on larger vehicles, those Firestone Pursuit ones are the only ones i could find Hell, I was having a tough time finding larger speed rated tires for 16" rims like the ones I mentioned for the TJ Rubi Moabs

Re: Weird Question, Can I get these?
I fixed that link under the radial T/A's by the way. I've run them in the water, but I don't recall running them in snow or ice. We get more ice that snow and skill makes the diff in ice not really the tires. lol. ANd from what I have seen in Tn., not many have the skill .... lol!!
The All Terrain works great in mud, snow and water to if you go that rt. Don't know much about the other two I mentioned. Never used them, but the look decent enough.
Don't really need a speed rated tire on a street car. They are hard as a rock and wont last much more than a regular street tire. What I lok for is a tire that sheds water well, has a high traction rating as well. Then I look at the side wall construction. The more ply's the better and what are they made out of. Tougher material is always better. If you want to get a real feel for how good a tire is, get a durometer and check to see how hard the rubber is. Softer equals more traction, period no matter what weather conditions you have, but it wears out faster. And the opposite for a harder tire. Whether a tire is good off road or in snow really depends on the tread design and will it shed water, and throw mud therefore cleaning itself out so that it can maintain traction.

Re: Weird Question, Can I get these?
I have always bought BFG tires for my trucks after I wore out the OEMs. Used both the All Terrain on my 4X4s and Long Trail on my 2X4. They work great in the snow, rain, and highway and have lasted 70K+ miles and they are very affordable.
My wifes SUV gets Michlens which have been very good but are a little more $$$.

Re: Weird Question, Can I get these?
I got turned off of Michilens a long time ago. I got a set of HX's and you could spit on the road and hit it over 55 and my Road RUnner would swap ends with ya. They were crap on a wet road. Great traction ona dry one though. Guess it was just that tire though.
Re: Weird Question, Can I get these?
I've had good luck and a lot of miles out of B.F. Goodrich Radial T/A's over the years. The Santa Fe I traded in for my Caliber last year had a set on it with 60,000 miles on them and they stil had good tread. I just didn't like the idea of my wife and kids riding on them so long. I got another set at a good price from the Tire Rack and they shipped them to me cheap. But as DWC said, we don't get a lot of snow and ice here in TN, so I can't comment on how well they'd perform in those conditions. But dollar for dollar spent on tires over 36 years of driving, they'be been the best. Firestones were the crappiest tires I've ever run. Never again.

I'll back you on that one 100% for sure.
Re: Weird Question, Can I get these?
I had BFG Touring TA's on my Lebaron and Shadow and had nothing but good luck with them, but htey don't even make them in the stock size for the XJ's. What worries me about the Radial TA's is that the max tire pressure is only 35psi while recommended is 32, now I normally run 35-36psi on the GY's and on the Toyo's it had before (on it at the time of purchase.) I'll have to look at the Michelins, only real experiance I have with those is on my folks old '87 f/s Chevy passenger van. Dad had X Radials on that and those worked suprisingly well year round here........however that van was heavier and the TBI 350 had less HP and probably not much more torque than the 4.0l, not to mention the 700R4's lack of reliability when compaired to the AW4:lol: If I needed an all terrain tire, I'd definatly get another set of these Wrangler's it got right now, they really do work well and considering how hard I've thrown the truck through corners they really do grip pretty good on road for an all terrain type tire too
It's hard finding people who can remember what it's like to drive while it's snowing around here, even from snowstorm to snowstorm let lone year to year

Re: Weird Question, Can I get these?
I never cared for the Wranglers at all. I even buried one of my 4x4's to the frame because they wont clean out the mud, but that's just me. Now in my opinion, if you really like those Wranglers, throw a set of those T/A All Terrain KO's on there and you'll love them even more. They'll throw crap on the roof even when your not trying real hard to do that. Any tire that cleans itself of mud and crap like that is what you want a on truck. But, that being said, you don't want off and on tires. I'd look at one of those other street radials in that list. I don't think you'll go wrong with a BFG if you can get the size you need.
And talking about how they can't remember between snow storms, heck here, they can't remember how to drive between rain storms. I'd laugh at that, but it aint too funny.

Some people have that problem around here too, then again, some seem have trouble remembering how to drive day to day no matter what the weather
